From the archives. "Rape-seed oil over rum baba. The only distillery on Mull has had a chequered career, and for a period the malt which bore its name was vatted, not single. Since 1993, it has been producing two malts - one peated, the other not. This cask had promise when we first nosed it, so we re-racked into sherry-wood two years ago. The result is wonderfully complex for its age, and rather than risk the wood taking over, we are bottling it now. Pale Mahogany in colour, the nose is powerful, full and prickly with sherry trifle, light toffees, honey, rum babas, Madeira and baking trays. When water is added, you immediately notice the sulphur so often associated with sherry-wood, but this settles in a moment to be replaced by burnt sugar, rape seed oil and light shag Old Holborn rolling tobacco, with liquorice papers, to be precise. Without water the flavour is fierce and even with water it is lively and has a light anesthetic effect. Dried sea-shells, crab shells and 'oddfellows' were noticed, with some sherry in the aftertaste. But the overall taste is surprisingly dry." The original price of this bottle in 1999 was £35.
Although a condition report is normally included in the lot description, we would recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids.
If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please use the link "ask a question" to make specific enquiries or to receive a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise lots will be sold as seen and described.
Please note: due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
