From the archives. "Kipper tails on a coal fire. Here is an outstanding example of 'the most powerfully flavoured malt of them all', from the first distillery you encounter when entering Kildalton Parish in Islay, the one which still has its own maltings. We have often remarked how good these Islays are young, and this is the best example we have encountered in a long time. It comes from an American barrel, and shows it: a gorgeous deep gold colour. The phenols hit immediately: creosote, beach fires, oily fish (we settled on burnt kipper tails), with some warm digestive biscuits behind. With water it remains very maritime, oily and seaweedy, with some watermelon (unexpectedly). The flavour, unreduced, is sweet to stat with pencil notes in the background (both wood and lead). At reduced strength it is oily, sweet and salty, with billows of charcoal smoke finishing like a coal fire. Complex, powerful and wonderfully mature for its age. If you like this style of whisky, order a case." The original price for this bottle in 2000 was £40.
Although a condition report is normally included in the lot description, we would recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids.
If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please use the link "ask a question" to make specific enquiries or to receive a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise lots will be sold as seen and described.
Please note: due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
