Q: How can I find out what my whisky is worth?

A: By contacting us on auctions@whisky-online.com for a free appraisal or by filling in the form under the 'List an Item'tab on the Auction Home page.

Q: Do you carry out home valuations?

A: Yes, contact us in the first instance to arrange your home evaluation

Q: Do I have to register before bidding?

A: Yes, there is a one off fee of £3 and you will be asked to register with us on WorldPay - this is to make sure we only get genuine bidders.

Q: Can I retract a bid?

A: If an incorrect amount has been lodged in error, contact us as soon as possible. If it does not interfere with the smooth running of the auction we may consider retracting the bid to the winning bid amount at that point. Bids cannot otherwise be retracted.

Q: Is the auction protected from last minute bids?

A: If a bid is placed on an auction item within the last 5 minutes of the auction, the end time for that item will be increased by a further 5mins to allow extra bidding time. The auction for that item will finish when no bidding activity has occurred for a full 5 minutes after the original auction end time. This is an automatic feature and Whisky-Online has no control over this.

Q: Can I, or a family member, bid on my own auction items?

A: It is illegal for you, or a family member, to bid on your own items in an auction. This is known as shill bidding and we have mechanisms in place to detect any occurrence of this.

Q: Can you arrange to collect my whisky?

A: Yes, contact us in the first instance to discuss your requirerments.

Q: How much does it cost to list an item?

A: For each lot in the main auction we charge £3 for administration, £3 for setting the reserve plus 5% of the hammer price (the final auction price). For each lot in the miniature whisky auction the charges are as shown here

Q: Can I list my own item?

A: Whisky-onlineauctions carry out all admin, listings and photography in order to match the house style of the auction under the guidance of our valuers. Every item must be with us prior to any auction start.

Q: Can I choose when my auction ends?

A: All listings start at the same time and end at the same day one week later.

Q: Does Whisky-onlineauctions look after all the logistics once they have possession of my whisky?

A: Yes, right up to the point of you receiving payment.

Q: How do I know how my items are performing in the auction?

A: We create an account for you and you can see each of your listings and their current status in the auction

Q: What if my item(s) don't sell, how do I get my whisky back?

A: Once you have paid your admin fee you are welcome to collect your items or we can have them delivered to you - please note there is a charge for this service - see our delivery rates for more details.

Q: Is there a sellers premium to be paid on sales?

A: Yes, the sellers premium is 5% of the final hammer price (the winning bid). Subject to VAT where applicable.

Q: If I win is it a legally binding contract?

A: Yes. See our terms and conditions

Q: How soon can I pay for my winning items?

A: If you have no further bids to make you can check out as soon as the auction has ended on your items (after 8 pm). If you check out while some extended auctions are still running and you are still bidding please wait until the whole auction has ended or two invoices will be generated and two separate shipping charges made.

Q: Is there a buyers premium to be paid on purchases?

A: Yes, the premium is 15% of the final hammer price (the winning bid). Subject to VAT where applicable.

Q: What is FuturePay?

A: FuturePay is a safe, simple, and convenient payment option that lets you purchase your winning items three days after the auction end without the need for you to enter your details again. It also ensures that you gain your Loyalty Points on your winning items.

Q: Do I have to register for FuturePay?

A: We ask all bidders to sign this agreement to ensure fast and reliable payouts to our sellers. You do have the option to self check out up to three days after the auction end.

Q: How secure is FuturePay?

A: There is no need to enter your credit card numbers or other sensitive information at check-out. All transactions are protected with SSL encryption and secure servers on the WorldPay systems. FuturePay carries out fraud checks ensuring your safety.

Q: If I win an item, do I have to pay VAT on the hammer price?

A: No, VAT is not payable on the hammer price.

Q: When and where is VAT payable?

A: VAT is payable on all services carried out within the EU. Goods bought in the auction and shipped inside the EU are subject to VAT on all the associated services but not the hammer price.

Q: Do I pay VAT outside the EU?

A: No, goods bought in the auction and shipped outside the EU do not incur VAT on any charges.

Q: When do I receive payment for the sale of my goods?

A: If your items meet the reserve, once the buyer has paid, we deduct your seller fees and then send on the balance to you by bank transfer within 7 - 14 working days. There are no bank handling charges in the UK, outside the UK there will be a £10 - £30 bank handling charge depending on the customer's location

Q: Can I pay in any currency?

A: All payments are to be made in British Pounds Sterling.

Q: When is Payment due on Winning Lots?

A: Payment is due immediately the auction closes. If payment is not made within three days of the auction close, monies will automatically be taken from the registered card under the terms of the FuturePay agreement.

Q: What methods of payment are accepted?

A: BACS transfers and telephone payments are accepted in addition to the Futurepay agreement.

Q: Can I personally collect the lots I win?

A: Yes, all we ask is you drop us a line to say you wish to collect.

Q: Can I arrange my own shipping?

A: Yes, we would need to see evidence and documentation of the destination, if the delivery address is outside the EU for VAT purposes.

Q: If I arrange a courier who will pack my items?

A: The courier is expected to pack your items.

Q: Will Whisky-onlineauctions ship my winning lots?

A: Yes, we can ship your goods if required, please select the option at the checkout point.

Q: Do I have to insure my goods in transit?

A: As with all valuables it is advisable to insure your goods, however, it is optional if you are willing to take the risks.
